It's PHOTO WEEK at Just us Girls

Our HOST this week at JUST US GIRLS
 is  NANCY.

Christmas Day has gone and the New Year
is just around the corner. I hope you had
a Merry and Safe Christmas and are looking forward
to seeing what 2015 brings you.
***
Moving on from Christmas creations
I was so happy when I saw this
beautiful photo and colour scheme from Nancy.
I again went cas on my card as I wanted to ink up a
Stampin' Up set I had bought (retired) and the colours
just oozed soft tiny flowers.
My base is basic white cs topped with
DP from Inspired by Stamping - Vintage Floral
I punched 3 tiny flowers to match and pair up with
Stampin' Up Sweet Summer.
Underneath the Sentiment from IBS - Birthday Wishes
is a border from Stampin' Up Fresh Vintage.
Corner rounded, inked the top and punched side and added
ribbon and a tiny bow.
Finished with a SU border with Tim Holtz London Fog
and 3 tiny Kaisercraft pearls to the flowers.
***
Come on over and see what the Team and our Guest LeeAnn
created and then  join us using this gorgeous colour combination.
Win Chic of the Week and you could be joining us as our
GUEST DESIGNER for FEBRUARY.

Thanks for popping in again

Tuesday 23 December 2014

I am a Guest over at Top Tip Tuesday

I was recently asked if I would do a Tutorial on a technique
that I had used at an ABC Christmas Challenge.

Of course I said yes especially as it fits perfectly with the
Current Challenge at Top Tip Tuesday to MAKE YOUR OWN.
***
So here goes for my first ever TUTORIAL.

To start your project gather your every day supplies you have at home -
Baby Powder, Craft Glue and Acrylic Paste.
The recipe I used can be found on the internet and  is
1/4 cup Baby Powder
1 tablespoon Glue
1 tablespoon Acrylic paint

Mix together in a small container till you get a smooth paste.
You may need to add a little water.
You could also use coloured Acrylic Paint which I added to the white.
Let your imagination take over.

You will need a stencil to place on your card stock then start
applying your paste. I used an old credit card filling in the open spaces.

When you are happy with the result carefully remove the stencil and give it a good wash.
It shouldn't take very long for your work  to dry.

Close ups of the Texture showing
the Wink of Stella shimmer.

This also show the depth and roughness of the Texture
and the cream colour.
***
Here is the finished card.

Other products I used are -
Clear Scraps Diamond Stencil
TCW Mini Textile Stencil
Folkart Daffodil Paint added to Texture Paste
Spellbinders Poinsettia Die
Kraft & Cream card stock
Fancy That Leafy Swirl
JustRite Antique Labels
MS Leaf Punches
Kaisercraft Pearls
Sentiment is from Gina K Designs Snow One Like You.
Wink of Stella Pen for a little shimmer.
***
I had recently made another card using this technique
You can check it out HERE
This card has lots of colour, texture and some bling.
***
So I think I covered everything here and I hope
you are inspired to check out this challenge HERE
and what the Design Team made
then show us your project using your
MAKE YOUR OWN
***
Thank you so much Samantha for the opportunity
to publish this Tutorial and get my fingers
and lots of other things very messy
and have so much fun doing so

Thank you also for popping in. I really appreciate it.

It's MY TURN to HOST at Just us Girls

Welcome to my FIRST posting as part of the
FABULOUS TEAM at JUST US GIRLS

I chose for you a COLOUR CHALLENGE.

I loved these colours and thought it perfect
for the card I made for your Inspiration below.

I had to make this 'SPECIAL'
because the beautiful peacock die was given to me
by my best friend for my birthday so I will be sending
it on to her as a 'THANK YOU'
***
Now where do I start?
The peacock is cut from the Peacock Tattered Lace Die.
I then traced the cut out piece to
use as my backing. I then heat embossed it randomly
with Zing Aqua and Purple embossing powder
which gave it a lovely sheen
Sponged Tim Holts Peacock Feathers
and Seedless Preserves on the feathers.
Designer Paper is from Sugar & Spice Spring Garden collection.
How lucky was I that it included peacock feather paper?
I spritzed the mat behind the popped peacock
with a Tom Bow marker
The sentiment is from Gina K - Assorted Greetings
Added a Kaisercraft Sea Breeze Sparklet
 to the flower and leaves
which are from Marianne Designs & MS punch

I think that's about it. Finally finished this card after having
several peacock cut outs in various papers/colours for some time
just waiting for me to play with them.
Really happy with how it turned out and I know
my crafty friend will  be too.

I am really looking forward to seeing how my colours
inspired you by entering in our
Colour Challenge over at
and be sure to check out what our Guest LeeAnn
and the other Designer's made also.
If you are our Chic of the Week you are in the running for
GUEST DESIGNER for FEBRUARY.

See you there

It's TREND WEEK at Just us Girls

It's TREND WEEK

and our Host this week is Maria who chose
MIXED MEDIA -

Something I was not terribly familiar with
so I did a LOT of searching on Pinterest
and had so many things running through my head.
Luckily I have been playing with stencils lately and
more recently texture paste.
(I know it has been out there for an age)
My sister in law had given me a suitcase full
of all her Folk Art Paints (lucky me)
as I had just bought some white paint to make
my own texture paste.
So I mixed up my paste and added some of her paint
and away I went. I wanted a rough look so made sure I had
a few bumps hehe
The background I made with a favourite technique of mine -
inking an acrylic block with different coloured inks
misting it and placing my card stock on top. It gives a great effect.
Also distressed the edges.
And my fun continues
***
I used a diamond stencil making it uneven to add
some extra depth. While it was still wet I sprinkled some
glitter over it and added a few dollops of gold paint.
There is a slight shimmer on the background misted with
iridescent medium.
I picked this particular colour scheme because I wanted
to use my thistle stamp which I bought some years ago
while I was holidaying in Scotland.
I heat embossed it and inked the background and again
added a little glitter. I backed it with Spellbinders Labels 20.
Finished off with a wee bow.
***
Other items I used are -
Tim Holtz distress inks in
Bundled Sage, Seedless Preserves
Forest Moss, Milled Lavender
Memento Pistachio

This post was a little long but hope you enjoyed
reading how I made my card and I inspired you
to get creative and join us for our
 MIXED MEDIA Challenge.

Don't forget to pop over to see what our Guest Designer Lee Ann
and the Fabulous  Design Team have created for your Inspiration.

You could be our Chic of the Week and be in the running to
be our Guest Designer for February.

Hope to see your name on a card over at

My Favourite Movie - As You Like It Challenge #42

The Challenge over at As You Like It
is to make a card using your

I think my all time favourite for quite some time is
Lonesome Dove.

Image 1

Lonesome Dove recounts the adventures of retired Texas Rangers Gus McRae (Robert Duvall) and Woodrow Call (Tommy Lee Jones) who live in a Texas Border town of Lonesome Dove. They drive a herd of cattle from there to Montana to establish the first cattle ranch.
When I first hired the movie it had Doves on the cover and my hubby wondered what on earth I had brought home. Since then we have bought the DVD including Return to Lonesome Dove and believe that through this sequel the Quarter Horse was born.
They are very long movies but so enjoyable.

 As You Like It Challenge
I have again made this card cas simply because it is a busy time of year
and I liked to move away from Christmas cards
and was  reminded of the fabulous movie above -
and the great challenge from
 As You Like It.
I used a shimmery Linen card stock for my base and backing
topped with a pink Spellbinder's circle
for the Dove which is a Cherry Lynn die. I cut out 2
and cut off the second bird and popped it.
Added a little glitter to the wings and tail.
Added a few pearls and sentiment is from Gina K Designs.
Corner rounded the base and that was it finished.

I know how busy we all are
at this time of year and appreciate you taking the time
to pop in and check my card out. Thank You.

Make it SPARKLE for JUGS WORD Week Challenge

LET IT  'SPARKLE'

Our HOST for this 'sparkly challenge' is SUE

Since it is getting really close to Christmas I am finding
it coming around TOO quickly. It seems to do that every year.
So to make it easy on myself I thought I would make
this simple but 'SPARKLY' card to add to my
unfinished Christmas Card Stash.
***
I used basic card stock a little piece of
torn vellum and attached my
'SPARKLY' snowflake
from a Cuttlebug die which I covered in
Glitter (of course)
Added a Bejewelled Gem some variegated twine
and the sentiment is from Repeat Impressions.
***
Pop on over to our blog Here
to check out what the other Designers
and our Guest Lee Ann have
made for your Inspiration and then
make a "Sparkley' card. If you win our

We're going for Anything Goes for WILD CARD Week at JUGS

The SUPER TALENTED Vicki as our Host
has made it easy for us.
Maybe she is feeling sorry for us with
so much going on before Thanksgiving
(for those across the pond)
and Christmas bearing down on us.
***
It's an ANYTHING GOES CHALLENGE

I decided to move away from Christmas card making
and went back to one of my favourite stamps and techniques.
***
The stamp I used is from SU Fifth Avenue Floral.
I heat embossed it in white 3 times
then wet the glossy paper and added
Rich Razzleberry ink and blended to give that
variegated effect.
Fussy cut 2 and popped on the full stamp (a little hard to see)
If you know the stamp you will see the difference.
I mounted it on pink and burgundy paper after I
stamped the background with Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet.
Sentiment is from SU Pendant Park and background
punched out with a McGill double punch.
Finished off with some bling and a centre pearl.
***
Pop over to the other Jugheads and our Talented Guest Tajanna
to see what they have made for
 This Weeks Challenge.
I'm sure you will find time to play
and I look forward to seeing your new creations.

Our Chic of the Week could be you
as our Guest in January.

X is for Xmas Music at ABC Christmas Challenge & the Mod Squad

I recently found the ABC Christmas Challenge site and
loved the idea of using the alphabet to make your
Christmas cards throughout the year.
I certainly will be trying to do this for all of 2015.
***
Since we are coming to an end of the year
the challenge this time round is
X for Xmas Music.

I love adding music to cards and have done
quite a bit this year as Hubby is a Guitar Freak
and turned 70 so the invites had Music on them -
and of course his cards did too.

Back to the card above -

It was a simple card to make especially as we need
our cards to be that way when we have family and friends
who love receiving a hand made one.
I used red, kraft and brown card stock
The music is from a sheet from hubby's book
Spellbinders Poinsettia Die - how could I not use this
as it is my favourite for Christmas. I cut a few extras to add
more depth and sprayed them with
SU Champagne Mist and
PearEX Aztec Gold for the shimmer and popped
Tim Holtz Antique Linen
Marvy Timeless Sepia Ink
Cuttlebug Embossing folder from a Magazine
Cuttlebug & MS Leaf Die embossed with
the ever popular Swiss Dots
Finished off with a few Kaisercraft pearls.

I would also like to enter this card in the
Mod Squad Challenge for their

As You Like It Challenge

Also entering this in the
and I chose Traditional for this one because for me
The red poinsettia plays a big part in
Christmas Decorations.

but hoping to add a Modern one as well.

is really just around the corner.

Details HERE

I have used the following on my card
Paper - Curious Metallic in White Gold
Cuttlebug Christmas embossing folder
Christmas ribbons, gold brads

around the edges and added gold glitter
Zing Metallic Green embossing powder
Versacolor Gold ink
Vintage Labels from Justrite for the
sentiment from Gink K Fanciful Tags
The snowflakes I bought online
The Christmas tree is unknown.
***
Don't forget to pop over to the other JUGHEADS
and this month's Guest Tajanna
to see how they were inspired by this photo.
 ***

you will be in the running to be our
Guest Designer for January.
How awesome is that?
***
I always look forward to seeing your entries every week.

Till next time Cherrio from

It's 'WHITE' on 'WHITE' and a little Stenciling.

Do you love just White on White?
I 'DO'

My favourite 'go to' for cards at the moment are
Stencils and have only delved into them big time of late.
I also discovered that you can do some much with them
especially with Textured Paste just to name one.
Now I have never gone there before even though
I love playing with backgrounds.
Maybe I must have been under a mushroom.
Now that the Pandora Box has opened - goodness knows
where it will take me.
I recently bought this fabulous Tim Holtz Stencil
called Holiday Knit and thought I would try
my new found trend.
I made my own Texture Paste as I don't live near
a craft store. I just used Acrylic Paint
Glue and didn't have Baby Powder so
used Bicarb of Soda. I did read that this would
make the paste rough and it did that but I liked the result.
Not bad for my first attempt
I showed my Sister in Law and she was into
Folk Art so she gave me her supply of
Acrylic Paints so I am going to have so much fun with them.
Sorry - a bit long winded there.
***
Onto the reason I am posting here.
I found a great challenge at ABC Christmas Challenge
and it is W for all WHITE - Perfect I said.
All I had to do was pop my Embossed Stencil
and add a Sentiment from SU Heard from the Heart.
I had this lovely paper that has a gold sparkle
going through it which was just what I needed
to go with the Gold embossed sentiment.
I curled the edges and lifted part
of the sentiment.
I also found another challenge that suited my card
where you were asked to use a Stencil and Stamp
(Just got those 2 in). Mine is just a
simple mixed media card.

So that's it for this post.

Sunday Stamps and CAS Sunday Challenge

This weeks challenge over at Sunday Stamps
is a Colour One - It's all Plum
and all the details are Here
and at Clean & Simple on Sunday
they have Challenge #46 Ribbon and or Twine.

As purple/plum is my favourite colour
(my favourite flower is a thistle being a Scot)
and I love to add a bit of twine or ribbon (twine this time)
to finish of my cards
I got in quickly to use a new stencil
and a fairly new SU Set - Petite Petals.
***
For some reason the purple/mauve colours
come out more like blue
when they are photographed.
***
For my card I used the following items ...
Basic white card stock
SU Petite Petals Stamp & Punch
SU Just Believe/Pocket Silhouettes for the Sentiments
Stencil is from The Crafter's Workshop - Mini Texture
Kaisercraft Leaves Stamp
Kaisercraft Pearls
Memento Inks - Sweet Plum, Lulu Lavender,
Eldenberry and New Sprout
Variegated Twine & Small Flower Punch.
***
It was a pretty simple card to make with just
stamping and a little punching.
***
Thanks for stopping by. I love hearing
what you think of my work.

I just added a couple of circle punches twine and
a button to finish.

and added Glossy Accents for the shine on her skateboard
and popped it on top of Spellbinders Circles and Lacy Circles
My sentiment is from Gina K Designs - Smile.

Check out the WOW Colours at JUGS

DON'T YOU JUST LOVE THESE 'AWESOME' COLOURS?

I know I DO... and  OUR HOST Sharyn found it...

An old work mate and dear friend sent me the amazing
stamp I used on my card. I knew when I saw the colours
I just had to use it, Unfortunately I don't know where it is from.

I have a thing about inking backgrounds lately and thought it
perfect for this challenge. Inky finger again...
I heat embossed the stamp with Zing Aqua embossing powder
which gave it a beautiful sheen
then went to work with my background colours.
I used several which include
Tim Holtz  - Peacock Feathers, Bundled Sage
Memento - Morocco, Peanut Brittle
to name a few.
Added layers of bright coloured card stock
which were edged with a Martha Stewart punch
Finished off with red Kaisercraft pearls.

That's my card for this weeks
Colour Challenge

I know the other JUGHEADS
and our Guest Tajanna
have created some breathtaking cards
so pop on over and check them out.
***
Sure hope you get the chance to create something
bright and beautiful.
In doing so and entering our challenge HERE
you could be our Weekly Winner
and be in the running for a Guest Designer Spot
sometime soon.

Hope to see how these colours inspired you and
look forward to seeing your creation
 so till next time...
