It's Anything Goes at Send a Smile 4 Kids

It's again time for another challenge over at
Send a Smile 4 Kids and it is the
ever popular one - ANYTHING GOES.

This little fellow is from Digi Stamps 4 Joy
and looks like he enjoyed catching that little fish.
***
I used the following products for this card -
DP from Doodle Pantry
Tim Holtz Speckle Stencil
Distress Markers/Inks
Spellbinders Square Die
Cardboard Backing
Pop Dots
Variegated Cotton

Now this fox nearly got the better of me and gave
me some anxious moments but I got him together in the end.
He is from our sponsor The Cutting Cafe'
and is a huge file with so much going for it.
I didn't do too much to him (that is after I got him
hand cut and assembled)
Did a little sponging around the edges
and also for parts of his body.
Finished with a sentiment and he was done. PHEW!
***
Our sponsors  prizes for this challenge are
The Cutting Cafe' - 3 Digi's or Cutting Files
Digi Stamps 4 Joy - $10 Gift Certificate

It's TREND WEEK at Just us Girls

Hosting the TREND WEEK CHALLENGE is SUE
and I loved what she chose 'STENCIL' as I have been
buying and playing around with them for a wee while now.

I had already made a few cards with different stencils
and couldn't decide which one to use for our challenge...
so since my sister (a quilter) was visiting
I asked her which one she liked.

This is the one she chose.

I like to arrange items off centre or on an angle
and thought this needed just that look.

I used the following items on my card -
White card stock
Stencil - Crafters Workshop Mini Texture
SU Petite Petals/Punch
SU Pocket Silhouettes/Just Because for Sentiments
Kaisercraft Leaf/Pearls
Karl Punch - tiny flowers
Memento ink - Sweet Plum/Elderberry
Variegated cotton.
***
So there you have my card for this weeks challenge
so be sure to go and check out Our JUGS site to see
what my talented Jugheads have to show off to you
and of course my very talented crafty friend Judy Woodland
who is our GUEST for January.
***
Hope you get the chance to play with this fabulous challenge
and you will be in the running for 'Chic of the Week'
and our Guest in March if you do.

I have also placed this at the  Design Team Showcase Blog

WIW Colour Challenge at The House that Stamps Built

There are some fabulous new challenges this year over at
The House that Stamps Built - one of my favourite sites
and this week it is the
so I got my fingers busy and came up with this card.

I just love some of their beautiful flower stamps
and love to just ink or heat emboss them instead of colouring.
For this one - RI Tulip Bouquet I did that using Candy Blue
Embossing Powder onto my white card stock.
My base is white and matted with blue.
I also added a strip of floral silver vellum to the side.
Finished off with some silver mesh topped with a popped
sentiment from SU a few gems and sequins with a
touch of paper piercing in the corner.
Simple but striking I thought.

Thanks for dropping in

Top Tip Tuesday - Keep it Simple Challenge

It's a New Year with New Challenges at
Top Tip Tuesday and to start their year off
they have a
 KEEP IT SIMPLE CHALLENGE.

Well I think I really did that with my card.

It is a one layer (unusual for me) card
using basic white card stock.
I cut out a die from Spellbinders Labels 1
to use as my mask then sponged my card using  Memento
Lulu Lavendar Dandelion and Pistacchio.
I then inked 3 stamps from
the SU Pocket Silhouette stamp set with
Memento Tuxedo Black.
My sentiment is from SU Heard from the Heart.
Finished off by punching 3 little hearts on the side
and added yellow paper on the inside to highlight them.
Top Tip Tuesday
MY HINT IS -

Stamp your sentiment off centre so you can add
a little something special to the side like I did
with the 3 little hearts. Just added interest and your eyes
are attracted to it.

Thanks for stopping by
Till next time ...

An 'As You Like It' Challenge

Over at As You Like It Challenge Blog their new challenge is to
Make a card with your favourite shape/fold and tell why.

With so many dies/folders to use with our die cutting machines
I love it when I can get them out and create something
a little out of the ordinary or a bit special.
Just don't do it often enough.
With this challenge it has given me
the chance to do just that.
This is a fairly simple card but with the gorgeous colours
I think packs a punch.
All products used here are from Stampin' Up
apart from the tiny yellow flowers on the frame.

I took this photo to show you that it is just scored
and folded at the back.

It is so nice to see the New Year and move on from
all those Christmas Cards we needed to make.

Hope you like my 'Shaped Card'

Our WORD WEEK at Just us Girls

The LOVELY SHARYN is hosting this weeks
WORD CHALLENGE and your challenge is
to make a card depicting what inspires you about
WINTER where you live and tell us what it is.
'Easy' you may say but it had me
 stumped for a long time.
For me Winter is staying indoors with my little pot belly stove
burning nicely and playing in my craft room.
Now how do I make a card with that in mind?
Since I didn't have  a stamp with a fire place I decided to
go the opposite way and look outside to see what inspired me.
I know Winter is coming on when all the beautiful frangipani's
start losing their leaves and the trees go bare
but my sister in law has the beautiful pink one
that the flowers stay on so that is what I like about Winter in
my part of the world. It is always nice to visit her to see them
flowering in her back yard.

My card is fairly simple with a white card base.
I topped that with the bright yellow of the centre of the
flower. I then stamped the background to my main frangipani
with the frangipani stamp from Darkroom Door in
Spun Sugar Distress Ink.
I attached 2 flowers with a brad in front of the sparkly pink ribbon.
Added a few sequins a little yellow spritzing
and a sentiment from Gina K Designs.

Don't forget to pop over and check out what Winter
means to my other Jugheads and our January Guest Designer
the Super Talented Judy Woodland.

Just like Judy you could be our  Guest Designer for March
by entering our challenges and be chosen
as a CHIC of the WEEK.
Hope to see you over at

I have also added this card to the Design Team Showcase.

PS Wishing you all a 'GUID NEW YEAR'.

 is  NANCY.

Christmas Day has gone and the New Year
is just around the corner. I hope you had
a Merry and Safe Christmas and are looking forward
to seeing what 2015 brings you.
***
Moving on from Christmas creations
I was so happy when I saw this
beautiful photo and colour scheme from Nancy.
I again went cas on my card as I wanted to ink up a
Stampin' Up set I had bought (retired) and the colours
just oozed soft tiny flowers.
My base is basic white cs topped with
DP from Inspired by Stamping - Vintage Floral
I punched 3 tiny flowers to match and pair up with
Stampin' Up Sweet Summer.
Underneath the Sentiment from IBS - Birthday Wishes
is a border from Stampin' Up Fresh Vintage.
Corner rounded, inked the top and punched side and added
ribbon and a tiny bow.
Finished with a SU border with Tim Holtz London Fog
and 3 tiny Kaisercraft pearls to the flowers.

Come on over and see what the Team and our Guest LeeAnn
created and then  join us using this gorgeous colour combination.

I am a Guest over at Top Tip Tuesday

I was recently asked if I would do a Tutorial on a technique
that I had used at an ABC Christmas Challenge.

Of course I said yes especially as it fits perfectly with the
Current Challenge at Top Tip Tuesday to MAKE YOUR OWN.
***
So here goes for my first ever TUTORIAL.

To start your project gather your every day supplies you have at home -
Baby Powder, Craft Glue and Acrylic Paste.
The recipe I used can be found on the internet and  is
1/4 cup Baby Powder
1 tablespoon Glue
1 tablespoon Acrylic paint

Mix together in a small container till you get a smooth paste.
You may need to add a little water.
You could also use coloured Acrylic Paint which I added to the white.
Let your imagination take over.

You will need a stencil to place on your card stock then start
applying your paste. I used an old credit card filling in the open spaces.

When you are happy with the result carefully remove the stencil and give it a good wash.
It shouldn't take very long for your work  to dry.

Close ups of the Texture showing
the Wink of Stella shimmer.

This also show the depth and roughness of the Texture
and the cream colour.
***
Here is the finished card.

Other products I used are -
Clear Scraps Diamond Stencil
TCW Mini Textile Stencil
Folkart Daffodil Paint added to Texture Paste
Spellbinders Poinsettia Die
Kraft & Cream card stock
Fancy That Leafy Swirl
JustRite Antique Labels
MS Leaf Punches
Kaisercraft Pearls
Sentiment is from Gina K Designs Snow One Like You.
Wink of Stella Pen for a little shimmer.
***
I had recently made another card using this technique
You can check it out HERE
This card has lots of colour, texture and some bling.
***
So I think I covered everything here and I hope
you are inspired to check out this challenge HERE
and what the Design Team made
then show us your project using your
MAKE YOUR OWN
***
Thank you so much Samantha for the opportunity
to publish this Tutorial and get my fingers
and lots of other things very messy
and have so much fun doing so

Thank you also for popping in. I really appreciate it.

It's MY TURN to HOST at Just us Girls

Welcome to my FIRST posting as part of the
FABULOUS TEAM at JUST US GIRLS

I chose for you a COLOUR CHALLENGE.

I loved these colours and thought it perfect
for the card I made for your Inspiration below.

I had to make this 'SPECIAL'
because the beautiful peacock die was given to me
by my best friend for my birthday so I will be sending
it on to her as a 'THANK YOU'
***
Now where do I start?
The peacock is cut from the Peacock Tattered Lace Die.
I then traced the cut out piece to
use as my backing. I then heat embossed it randomly
with Zing Aqua and Purple embossing powder
which gave it a lovely sheen
Sponged Tim Holts Peacock Feathers
and Seedless Preserves on the feathers.
Designer Paper is from Sugar & Spice Spring Garden collection.
How lucky was I that it included peacock feather paper?
I spritzed the mat behind the popped peacock
with a Tom Bow marker
The sentiment is from Gina K - Assorted Greetings
Added a Kaisercraft Sea Breeze Sparklet
 to the flower and leaves
which are from Marianne Designs & MS punch

I think that's about it. Finally finished this card after having
several peacock cut outs in various papers/colours for some time
just waiting for me to play with them.
Really happy with how it turned out and I know
my crafty friend will  be too.

I am really looking forward to seeing how my colours
inspired you by entering in our
Colour Challenge over at
and be sure to check out what our Guest LeeAnn
and the other Designer's made also.
If you are our Chic of the Week you are in the running for
GUEST DESIGNER for FEBRUARY.

See you there

It's TREND WEEK at Just us Girls

It's TREND WEEK

and our Host this week is Maria who chose
MIXED MEDIA -

Something I was not terribly familiar with
so I did a LOT of searching on Pinterest
and had so many things running through my head.
Luckily I have been playing with stencils lately and
more recently texture paste.
(I know it has been out there for an age)
My sister in law had given me a suitcase full
of all her Folk Art Paints (lucky me)
as I had just bought some white paint to make
my own texture paste.
So I mixed up my paste and added some of her paint
and away I went. I wanted a rough look so made sure I had
a few bumps hehe
The background I made with a favourite technique of mine -
inking an acrylic block with different coloured inks
misting it and placing my card stock on top. It gives a great effect.
Also distressed the edges.
And my fun continues
***
I used a diamond stencil making it uneven to add
some extra depth. While it was still wet I sprinkled some
glitter over it and added a few dollops of gold paint.
There is a slight shimmer on the background misted with
iridescent medium.
I picked this particular colour scheme because I wanted
to use my thistle stamp which I bought some years ago
while I was holidaying in Scotland.
I heat embossed it and inked the background and again
added a little glitter. I backed it with Spellbinders Labels 20.
Finished off with a wee bow.
***
Other items I used are -
Tim Holtz distress inks in
Bundled Sage, Seedless Preserves
Forest Moss, Milled Lavender
Memento Pistachio

This post was a little long but hope you enjoyed
reading how I made my card and I inspired you
to get creative and join us for our
 MIXED MEDIA Challenge.

Don't forget to pop over to see what our Guest Designer Lee Ann
and the Fabulous  Design Team have created for your Inspiration.

You could be our Chic of the Week and be in the running to
be our Guest Designer for February.

My Favourite Movie - As You Like It Challenge #42

The Challenge over at As You Like It
is to make a card using your

I think my all time favourite for quite some time is
Lonesome Dove.

Image 1

Lonesome Dove recounts the adventures of retired Texas Rangers Gus McRae (Robert Duvall) and Woodrow Call (Tommy Lee Jones) who live in a Texas Border town of Lonesome Dove. They drive a herd of cattle from there to Montana to establish the first cattle ranch.
When I first hired the movie it had Doves on the cover and my hubby wondered what on earth I had brought home. Since then we have bought the DVD including Return to Lonesome Dove and believe that through this sequel the Quarter Horse was born.
They are very long movies but so enjoyable.

 As You Like It Challenge
I have again made this card cas simply because it is a busy time of year
and I liked to move away from Christmas cards
and was  reminded of the fabulous movie above -
and the great challenge from
 As You Like It.
I used a shimmery Linen card stock for my base and backing
topped with a pink Spellbinder's circle
for the Dove which is a Cherry Lynn die. I cut out 2
and cut off the second bird and popped it.
Added a little glitter to the wings and tail.
Added a few pearls and sentiment is from Gina K Designs.
Corner rounded the base and that was it finished.

I know how busy we all are
at this time of year and appreciate you taking the time
to pop in and check my card out. Thank You.

Make it SPARKLE for JUGS WORD Week Challenge

LET IT  'SPARKLE'

Our HOST for this 'sparkly challenge' is SUE

Since it is getting really close to Christmas I am finding
it coming around TOO quickly. It seems to do that every year.
So to make it easy on myself I thought I would make
this simple but 'SPARKLY' card to add to my
unfinished Christmas Card Stash.
***
I used basic card stock a little piece of
torn vellum and attached my
'SPARKLY' snowflake
from a Cuttlebug die which I covered in
Glitter (of course)
Added a Bejewelled Gem some variegated twine
and the sentiment is from Repeat Impressions.
